Following Julien Lopetegui’s sacking at West Ham, former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter has agreed to join the London club, becoming their third manager in seven months.

There are growing feelings of discontent in the club surrounding the treatment meted out to David Moyes, a manager who won them their first major trophy in decades, and the subsequent arrival of the Spaniard and how much money was given to him.

Moyes cried for investments, especially after the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal, but he wasn’t backed and was eased off after his contract expired, with the club seeking attractive football and some eye-catching aesthetics, which hasn’t happened so far.

The signs on the wall for Lopetegui were always ominous. Results weren’t showing up and despite a purple patch, the embarrassing loss last weekend to a sick Manchester City side didn’t help matters, it didn’t matter if it was the champions, it mattered more that they lost to a team out of sorts.

Graham Potter has been away from football club management since being fired at Chelsea in April of 2023 after a run of bad results but is expected to be in the Hammers dugout when they play against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Friday.

West Ham currently sits in 14th on the Premier League log after winning just six of their opening 20 league games, for a club that was in Europe in back-to-back seasons under David Moyes and actual champions of the Conference League just two seasons ago, their current fate is unacceptable.

Potter’s West Ham contract runs till the summer of 2027 and he is expected to stabilize the club, maximize the talent in the squad and climb as high as possible. The new recruits have failed to inspire confidence and all their performances are still built around Jarrod Bowen, will Potter improve them?
