Ruben Amorim must be facing a challenging life at Manchester United; he may not have anticipated the current situation, despite predicting storms at the beginning of his tenure. However, he had anticipated mild showers, not a hurricane.

The Red Devils will kick off this game in 14th position, their lowest at this stage for a long while, and it doesn’t look like things will get better. From the way they play to their intensity and the manner of goals they concede, Manchester United is hard to watch and easy to play against.

Newcastle travels to Old Trafford with the understanding that they must maintain simplicity in order to secure a result against the Red Devils. The Magpies have won their last four consecutive games, including two impressive clean sheets.

Aston Villa and Newcastle are both fighting for the same thing this season: to beat Unai Emery’s side 3-0 the way Newcastle did shows how strong Eddie Howe’s side is, and they will relish this game against a struggling Manchester United.

United must be eyeing a potential success in the Europa League because they can’t squeeze into European places via the league, not with how they currently play or the kind of results they record, whether they’re playing at home or away.

The front three of Newcastle will trouble Manchester United all night; Jacob Murphy is becoming an integral part of Newcastle’s wing play, and Anthony Gordon is who he says he is on days he finds the right mood. Alexander Isak needs no introduction; United won’t find him simple to deal with.

On paper, United has exciting players, so why are they not ticking? Why are they playing like they’re new to the game? Why can’t they take responsibility in games and be accountable in possession? Do some of them want out?

It’s even tougher for United in this one, with Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes both suspended for it. The captain received a red card, arguably the most avoidable one; the Portuguese player needs to reflect on his lack of leadership in this game.

Nick Pope, Callum Wilson, and Jamaal Lascelles are all confirmed to be long-term absentees, but Sven Botman is back in training and should feature very soon. Lewis Hall has become a huge revelation this season; he will be busy down the left on Monday night.

It’s intriguing to see if Casemiro will get the nod to start on Monday in the absence of Fernandes and Ugarte. Antony is another player who needs redemption and could get a shot at that here. Amad Diallo will put in a shift as always, but will there be space for Marcus Rashford?

Verdict: Newcastle to win or draw.
