Manchester United kicked off the post-Ten Hag era with four goals in just over half an hour in their League Cup game against Leicester City, winning 5-2 on a night many saw a different energy from the players.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy took to the dugout as an interim manager, and it didn’t take long for fans to celebrate again. Casemiro started and rounded off the first half's scoring before Bruno Fernandes completed his brace with the fifth just before the hour mark.

United’s reward for beating Leicester is a quarterfinal game against Tottenham, the team that eliminated Manchester City. Ange Postecoglou promised fans to win something this season, and he’s well on the path to fulfilling that as his team ran out 2-1 winners over the Premier League champions.

Timo Werner and Pape Mata Sarr scored the goals for Tottenham, while Matheus Nunes found the back of the net to make half the deficit. Savinho's injury forced Manchester City to incur additional costs.

Elsewhere on the night, Liverpool beat Brighton 3-2 to continue the outstanding run of the Kops under Arne Slot. Who would have thought that the game would end with five goals after the first half ended goalless? The rain began early in the second half and continued until the final whistle blew.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the first minute of the second half before the Dutchman made it a brace just after the hour mark. Simon Adingra brought the hosts back into the game, but Luiz Diaz took it away from them with the Seagulls, making Tariq Lamptey’s late goal academic.

Arsenal’s Ethan Nwanneri stepped up again with a beauty of a goal at Preston North End as the Gunners booked their place in the quarterfinals with an emphatic 3-0 win. Gabriel Jesus scored his first goal since January, before Kai Havertz rounded off the scoring late on.

For the first time in fourteen years, we’re having an all-Premier League quarterfinal. Arsenal will host Crystal Palace at the Emirates. Newcastle will host Brentford after the Magpies dumped Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea out of the cup, while Southampton will host Liverpool at St. Mary’s Stadium.
