Cole Palmer shines as Chelsea edge past Newcastle

Chelsea continued their impressive form in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle, as Cole Palmer bagged his seventh goal of the season to seal three points.

Palmer's strike, combined with Nicolas Jackson’s early opener, further solidified Chelsea’s spot near the top of the table.

The Blues took the lead in the 18th minute when Jackson fired home after a well-orchestrated attack.

Cole Palmer, playing a crucial role in midfield, threaded a sharp pass that set Pedro Neto on the break, who then teed up Jackson for his fifth league goal this season.

However, Newcastle responded swiftly; Alexander Isak tapped in an equaliser in the 32nd minute, keeping the match tightly balanced.

The second half began with a spark, as Cole Palmer found the net with a powerful drive from just inside the box, beating Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope at his near post.

The goal marked Palmer’s seventh in just nine Premier League appearances this season, underscoring his role as a consistent scorer for Chelsea.

Newcastle had a late chance to level the game when Isak rounded Chelsea’s keeper Robert Sanchez, but his attempt was blocked by a vigilant Chelsea defence.

Chelsea also had a penalty decision overturned by VAR after Christopher Nkunku went down in the box but was deemed to have slipped.

With this victory, Chelsea rose to fourth in the league standings, although they could drop to fifth should Arsenal avoid defeat against Liverpool later in the day.

Chelsea continue transformation under Enzo Maresca

Chelsea’s transformation under manager Enzo Maresca has been notable; they have won five of their nine games, losing only to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Their scoring consistency—netting in their last 13 matches across all competitions—is a stark contrast to last season’s struggles in front of goal.

Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson’s finishing prowess has bolstered Chelsea’s firepower, especially at home, where they have scored 17 goals in their last seven fixtures at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer’s goal record, with 20 goals in his last 24 appearances, highlights his importance, while Jackson continues to threaten defences with his consistent strikes.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have slipped to 12th and are now five league games without a win, with defensive issues evident.
