Should Manchester City be worried?

Manchester City has dropped points in three consecutive games in the Premier League with the stalemate at home to Tottenham, leaving many wondering if the era is indeed coming to an end.

The Cityzens played out a sensational 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge to Chelsea and then settled for a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool, a result that took them off the top of the league, and on Sunday, right in front of the Etihad fans, Manchester City dropped two valuable points again.

With Tottenham playing an ill-advised high line and missing many players, including Christian Romero in defense, many expected Manchester City to hammer Tottenham, with Erling Haaland expected to feast, but football doesn’t follow scripts.

Spurs had lost three games on the bounce: the 4-1 home reverse to Chelsea, the 2-1 loss at Wolves, and the 2-1 home reverse to Aston Villa. One thing is common across the board: Spurs scored the first goal in the three games and lost all three.

It felt like it was coming to life again right before their eyes as Heung Min Son scored the opener, only to be on the end of a set piece that ended in the Tottenham net, his first-ever career goal to level matters at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland missed a sitter not long after, and Jeremy Doku was in his feelings all game long, seeking goals and then hitting the underside of the crossbar before Phil Foden got on the end of a fine City move to make it 2-1.

It felt like the champions would run with the game, but again, the script didn’t go according to plan. After missing so many chances in the first half, Tottenham levelled with yet another top-quality finish from Argentine midfielder Gio Lo Celso off a fine Heung Min Son assist.

Both sides stayed in the game, with the hosts dominating proceedings. Haaland set up Jack Grealish for what looked like the winner after Doku was replaced with the England playmaker; it looked like game over with the game winding down.

Dejan Kulusevski rose the highest to head home the leveller at the death, but it didn’t end there. Erling Haaland was fouled in the Spurs half, and referee Simon Hooper seemed to play advantage, but as Grealish raced clear, the referee called it back, and City players didn’t find it funny.

Erling Haaland was booked in the process for his troubles; the Norwegian didn’t find the decision funny, and he made his grievances known with the strongest energy in the room. It ended 3-3, and you wonder if City now has to chase again.
