Burnley is in real danger of going down, and if they do, they will be one of those sides you label in retrospect as being “too good” to go down.

The playing style is beautiful, but the quality available to Vincent Kompany isn’t good enough to deliver on the big stage. The signs are worrying, but belief must be heightened for them to stand any chance of survival.

It’s back-to-back home draws for Liverpool. They would look back at the two games and feel they could have gotten at least four points instead of two. The goalless draw against Manchester United in front of the Kops was not in the script.

Liverpool was used to welcoming Arsenal at Anfield and putting them to the sword. That seems to have changed, as they could have lost to Arsenal. Of course, they could have won as well with a huge breakaway chance later in the game that Trent Alexander Arnold rammed off the crossbar.

Burnley will hope the good old saying “you’re only as good as your last game” will come in handy for them in this game as they beat Fulham 2-0 away from home over the weekend. The Clarets have had more results away from Turf Moor than right in front of their fans; that’s worrying.

Liverpool must be really angry. With two games at home without a win and a struggling side up next, you don’t want to be in Burnley’s shoes considering the firepower available to Jurgen Klopp to prosecute the game on Boxing Day.

The duo of Alexis Mac Allister and Kostas Tsimikas are still unavailable; expect Klopp to restore Darwin Nunez to the starting lineup after opting for Cody Gakpo last time out. The Uruguayan doesn’t score many, but his presence can be terrifying.

Burnley scored two goals from only two shots on target at Craven Cottage; such efficiency will be needed again on Tuesday. They will not see a lot of chances and won’t even see a lot of the ball; they have to make good use of the scraps they’re fed.

Mohammed Salah has moved above Michael Owen on the all-time scoreboard for Liverpool, and he is not about to stop. He is favoured to get a couple or more at Turf Moor, and if Liverpool wins, they will move to the top of the table at least until the Gunners play on Wednesday.

Verdict: Liverpool to win
