The last time this fixture happened, Manchester United conceded seven odd goals in broad daylight. Are we about to see a repeat of that famous evening at Anfield?

Liverpool is at the top of the Premier League table and only needs to win to stay there on Sunday. They also have a huge incentive to go six points clear of the champions with a win over United; what more motivation do they need?

Following City’s 2-2 draw at home to Palace, the assignment for Liverpool just got a little more interesting, and they don’t have to overanalyze anything. Stay professional, go for it, and hope that the Anfield crowd does their thing.

Manchester United will be without their captain, Bruno Fernandes when they travel to Anfield on Sunday. The Portuguese picked up his second yellow card in the embarrassing 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth last weekend, ruling him out of this big game.

United must be suffering from the hangover of the 7-0 thrashing at Anfield last season; the game isn’t one that follows scripts, but this will be a huge anomaly to swing the way of the visitors. United must be brave in their approach; they don’t have a lot to lose.

It sounds ridiculous, but only a United result will be news at the end of the day. Many expect United to be thrashed again, and it’s looking like they will get their wish considering how many absentees United has, but football is an interesting wonder.

Liverpool is expected to be without the trio of Joel Matip, Diogo Jota, and Alexis Mac Allister; they all join Thiago Alcantara on the injury list for the Kops. Andy Robertson isn’t expected back until January, and Kostas Tsimikas continues to deputize in his absence.

United only needs a goalkeeper to have a complete eleven on the table. Harry Maguire was voted player of the month for November, but he is now carrying a groin problem, which will rule him out of the trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

United crashed out of Europe altogether with a home loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, leaving them with the league as their primary focus, and a loss on Sunday to Liverpool will throw them further away from the top-four equation.

Liverpool is the favorite to win this; Mohammed Salah enjoys this particular fixture, and once again, he will be the player to watch. Rasmus Hojlund is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League; will he have his day at Anfield?

Verdict: Straight win for Liverpool
