Kenilworth Road will welcome another heavyweight on Sunday with the visit of the champions, Manchester City.

The Hatters were within seconds of another scalp of a title contender on Tuesday, only to concede a last-gasp Declan Rice header. The game was at 3-3, with probably the last act of the game before Arsenal found a way to break their hearts.

Manchester City appears wounded. The champions lost at Aston Villa last time around, and visiting Luton Town with the hangover of that defeat could spell doom for Rob Edwards’ side, but you won’t hand them the game without them working for it.

We know how Pep Guardiola’s side can be at a time like this. They’re seven points off the top at this stage, and they don’t want to cede more ground to the Kops; they’d believe Arsenal is an easier side to chase, so expect their bullish side on Sunday.

Where did it go wrong for the Hatters against Arsenal? You can’t fault them; they gave everything and took their chances. They had only four shots on goal and scored from three of those, although David Raya handed them some support along the way.

Manchester City has just one win in their last five, and that was in the Champions League against RB Leipzig. With another UCL game coming up in a few days, they will channel all their energy into their visit to Kenilworth Road; they’re already through as group leaders in the continental championship.

How can Luton earn something from this game? They have to take their chances like they did against the Gunners; they must use set pieces to undo the champions and then stay compact when they do not have the ball.

They must keep an eye on Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese will once again be the man with the movements. Rodri is back after serving his one-match ban, Jack Grealish is too, and the fitness of Jeremy Doku could mean a starting role for the English playmaker.

Luton should be wary of giving freekicks away in dangerous areas. Julian Alvarez sure knows how to lift one, and Erling Haaland is upfront to convert after being unable to find the back of the net in back-to-back league games.

Verdict: Straight win City
