Following the long-awaited judgement of the European Court of Justice sitting in Luxembourg, top European clubs have released statements to show their support for UEFA.

In April 2021, twelve of Europe's top football clubs announced plans to form a breakaway competition known as the European Super League. Fans, football associations, and even political figures widely criticized this move.

The proposed league threatened the existing structure of European football, particularly the UEFA Champions League, and raised concerns about the concentration of power and wealth among a select few clubs.

The verdict from the ECA would likely reflect the prevailing sentiment within its member clubs and their commitment to the existing football structures. The episode underscored the delicate balance between the interests of the wealthiest clubs and the broader football community, emphasizing the need for dialogue and collaboration.

While major clubs across Europe have voiced their sentiments against the proposed breakaway league, Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez and Barcelona’s Juan Laporta have both released statements to canvass for support, as they remain the only ones in favor of the new structure.

Both parties are claiming victory from the ECA judgment, but an inside look will reveal something that looks like a 50-50 stance. The two La Liga giants are claiming the judgment is in their favor, which you might want to understand for Barcelona considering how dire their finances are.

Real Madrid may be seeking new adventures. They’ve been there and done that with record Champions League triumphs, and their support for the breakaway championship might be a result of boredom, which is borderline bipolar, to say the least.

Most Premier League clubs have rejected the judgment of the ECA and have pledged allegiance to the UEFA structure, with Arsenal being the latest to release a statement. It is up in the air at the moment, and the events ahead of us would be interesting to experience.
