Arsenal have announced the signing of Dutch international Jurrien Timber from Ajax. The 22-year-old defender has signed a long-term contract, joining the Gunners in a highly anticipated move.

Timber was an instrumental figure at Ajax, racking up 121 senior appearances in all competitions. His tenure with the Amsterdam giants saw him lift two league titles and a Dutch Cup.

A product of the renowned Ajax academy, Timber joined in 2014 alongside his twin brother Quinten, who currently dons Feyenoord's colours.

Timber made his senior debut for Ajax in March 2020 in a 3-1 victory against SC Heerenveen.

The versatile defender has also represented his country, the Netherlands, in both UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

His senior debut came in a 2-2 friendly against Scotland in June 2021.

Edu and Arteta are were full of praise for their new signing

The Dutchman's arrival has been warmly welcomed by the Arsenal camp, with Sporting Director Edu stating, "We are very happy to bring Jurrien to Arsenal. He is a player that we have admired for a long time, so it's a credit to everyone in our team that made this happen."

Edu further praised Timber as a young, talented international player" who aligns with Arsenal's vision of nurturing a youthful, strong squad.

Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, shared Edu's enthusiasm, saying, "We're really excited that Jurrien has joined us. He is a versatile young defender who will fit into our system and provide our squad with so much added quality."

Arteta also highlighted Timber's impressive track record, pointing out his experience at major international tournaments and his successful stint with Ajax.

As Jurrien Timber gets ready to adorn the number 12 shirt for Arsenal, fans are eagerly anticipating the fresh dynamism he's expected to bring to the Gunners' defence.
