Not many would talk about Inter Milan’s heroics en route to the 2023 Champions League final, but it’s important to celebrate the Nerazzurri, who have booked a date with either Real Madrid or Manchester City on the 10th of June.

Inter Milan has always been the inferior team; they’ve had to deal with the offshoots of bad decisions, failed transfers, wasted opportunities, and unforced errors to overcome their arch-enemies, AC Milan, and you have to wonder how it got this bad for the deposed Serie A champions.

You won’t be mistaken if you say the Milan sides swapped places; from the ashes of tragedy that trailed Inter Milan since they last won the scudetto in 2010, they bounced back to wrestle power from Juventus in 2021 but nosedived into mediocrity the following season.

The Inter Milan blue wave has usurped the red one in Milan, and the Rosonnerri were nowhere near their blue neighbours in the semifinal doubleheader.

A 2-0 win away and a clinical 1-0 win on home soil completed the route, but do they have what it takes to beat any of the guys on the other side?

Critics would look at this side and dismiss their chances in the final against any of the incurable Champions League winners Real Madrid or glory hunters Manchester City; you really can’t fault the naysayers if you break down this current Inter team.

The treble winners of 2010 went through Chelsea, Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona, and a solid Bayern Munich team to land the champions league, but this set barely scaled the Porto hurdle before beating Benfica and then a disjointed AC Milan in the semifinal.

Another factor that helped the Inter Milan class of 2010 was the location of the manager.

Jose Mourinho was the man in the dugout then, and not many were better than the Mourinho of that era.

Simeone Inzaghi has earned his stripes, even though a lot would disagree based on an eye test, but can he land the big one?

All eyes would be on Real Madrid as they travel to the Etihad to negotiate with Manchester City, and many expect the winner of that tie to win the Champions League this season.

But can you honestly rule out the fairytale of Inter Milan?
