Wolves will be the first team to host Chelsea in the second coming of Frank Lampard after the former club legend was rehired to guide the Blues till the end of the season.

Graham Potter was fired last weekend following Chelsea’s home loss to Aston Villa, and Bruno Saltor, an assistant to Potter, managed the club against Liverpool in midweek, and fans would confess that they played their best game in a while against the Kops.

Wolves remains in the relegation zone despite the appointment of Julien Lopetegui, and unless they start picking up points, they could be in real trouble as they’re just a point away from the lots on 27 points in the relegation zone.

The quality in the Wolves squad should be able to see them over the line, but at the moment, they’re not impressive, and should they lose on Saturday, they could end the day in the penalty zone. It’s crunch time for them and everyone else within the drop zone.

Chelsea has the players to compete in the league; 11th position with hundreds of millions spent is unacceptable, and that explains the sacking of Potter, but why didn’t the club hire a substantive manager now and allow him to integrate into the team with the remaining games, and fire him on from preseason?

Lampard seems like a safe option to placate the fans and also steady the ship. Wolves can hurt Chelsea, but they will have to do more than what they have done of late.

It will be a tough game for both sides, but the neutrals should enjoy the game.

How will Chelsea approach the game?

Freedom is key, and with Lampard at the helm, Mason Mount should have a look-in again after being a fringe player under Potter.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling will enjoy their playing time, and the young lads will also have a great run.

The return to fitness of Ngolo Kante will do Lampard a world of good.

Don’t bet against Chelsea henceforth, but there could be a waiting period that could take up to two or three games, which means the Champions League game against Real Madrid could suffer.

Wolves must be brave and defensively aware to stand a chance. A point would be heroic for the hosts, but with Chelsea fighting for nothing of note in the league, the Wolves can pull off a win that will help their survival cause.

Verdict: A full-time draw
