Crystal Palace has parted ways with manager Patrick Vieira after a miserable run of games that has left the club without a win in 2023 and sits only three points above the relegation zone.
The Eagles lost to City over the weekend and then to Brighton and Hove in midweek; they are now on a run of twelve games without a win and sitting in 12th.
Vieira led the club to a 12th-place finish last season, but that’s a country mile away from their current situation.
A statement by the club reads: "It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position, and we felt a change was necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status.
"That said, Patrick's impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself and all of his colleagues.
"He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semifinal and a respectable 12th-place finish last season, playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival."
Up next for the Eagles is the visit to Arsenal’s magnificent Emirates Stadium.
The goal is to compete there and start the rebuild post-Vieira; what are their chances against the Gunners that just lost out of the Europa League to Sporting Lisbon?
