Lionel Messi has been named the FIFA Men’s Best footballer of the year 2022, beating Kyllian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to the awards on Monday night.
From Paris, France, the crème de la crème of football gathered in one room to celebrate the greatness of individuals and teams for their greatness in the year 2022 and many couldn’t wait to find out who wins the FIFA Best Award for men’s football.
Before the top shot award was handed out to Messi, few awards were handed out including the men’s coach of the year which went to Lionel Scaloni who guided Argentina to their first World Cup title since 1986 in Qatar last December. Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti came second and third respectively.
Emiliano Martinez won the goalkeeper of the year off his heroics in the premier league and most importantly for helping Argentina to the World Cup title. The Aston Villa goalkeeper beat Bono and Thibaut Courtois to the award.
The female player of the year went to Alexia Putellias once again after winning the female Ballon d’or and as always, the biggest of the night was the men’s player of the year and while many predicted it, an unprecedented third World Cup trophy for Argentina was undeniably the reason behind Messi’s triumph.
