Real Madrid defeat Atletico to secure semi-final spot

Real Madrid defeat city rivals Atletico Madrid 3-1 in extra time to advance to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

The Copa del Rey quarter-final match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid was a nail-biting affair that ended in extra time with Real Madrid emerging victorious.

The match started off with Atletico Madrid taking the lead in the first half with a goal from Alvaro Morata. 

The goal came from a low cross by Nahuel Molina which Morata finished off from close range. 

Real Madrid, however, were not deterred and continued to push forward, creating several chances but failing to convert them.

As the match entered the final minutes, it looked like Atletico Madrid would hold on for the win, but Real Madrid had other ideas. 

In the 79th minute, Rodrygo scored a stunning goal, beating three Atletico players to equalize the score and send the match into extra time.

The extra time saw Atletico Madrid's Stefan Savic being sent off for two bookable offences, which proved to be a turning point in the match. 

Real Madrid capitalized on the numerical advantage and took the lead in the 104th minute with a goal from Karim Benzema. 

Vinicius Jr then sealed the victory for Real Madrid with a goal in the final minutes of extra time.

The match was a showcase of the intense rivalry between these two teams and the passion of the fans. 

Real Madrid secure their spot in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, where they joined Barcelona, Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao.
