Liverpool is in trouble but Jurgen Klopp believes his side can take inspiration from what he calls an improved performance despite crashing out of the FA Cup following a 2-1 loss to Brighton.

The Kop travelled to the Amex to negotiate a third-round ticket with the Seagulls.

Harvey Elliot continued his scoring form with a fine finish to hand the visitors the lead.

The hosts responded through Lewis Dunk despite the absence of wanted-away midfielder Moises Caicedo.

It’s the third time Liverpool has played Brighton this season, and no win has been recorded.

Brighton earned a hard-fought draw at Anfield in the league, and just two weeks ago, they beat Liverpool 3-0 at the Amex.

Liverpool has now crashed out of the two cups they won last season and only boasts three wins in nine games.

Their standing on the league table is poor, and they must start winning games if they want to return to Europe next season.

Kaoru Mitoma scored a brilliant winner, turning Joe Gomez into a club dancer in the process before unleashing a scorcher past Alison in the Liverpool goal.

The winner sends Roberto Di Zerbi’s side through to the next round.

"We came here after a couple of weeks with one of the worst performances in my time here, so today it was much better, but still we conceded two goals from set pieces," Klopp told reporters after the match.

"So now we closed the gaps where they passed through last time, but they scored from set pieces.

"We still have space for improvement. We make steps but we have to improve, we have to go further on and we will do that."
