The World Cup is over and while it’s hard for us to forget in a hurry, we’ll look at some hot talking points in league football that has already resumed following league cup games on Tuesday with premier league clubs finding joy against lower league oppositions.

Toney’s career over?

Sport betting is highly prohibited among active footballers and industry practitioners and the governing body frowns at perpetrators without sympathy; news broke out on Tuesday that Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been charged with a number of betting related offenses and that could be grave for him.

Toney has helped the Bees with his goals this season but now faces the axe of the English FA over numerous betting crimes and he has till the end of Wednesday to respond. We may have seen the end of his career if he’s found guilty.

Where are City players?

A bulk of the Manchester City players that represented their nations at the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar are yet to return to the club with City playing in the league next Wednesday against Leeds United.

The entirety of the England contingent, Rodri of Spain, Bernardo Silva of Portugal, Ederson of Brazil, Julian Alvarez that won the trophy against France and Manuel Akanji of Switzerland are all yet to return; will they be fresh for premier league return?

Mattheus Cunha to join Wolves

It’s a desperate time for midlands side Wolves as key players keep journeying down the injury lane and fitness is also a concern but the club has reportedly sealed a deal for Brazilian forward Mattheus Cunha who will join from Atletico Madrid.

With Raul Jimenez struggling despite making cameo appearances at the World Cup and two new signings ruled out for a long period, Wolves new manager Julian Lopetegui has signed Cunha to bridge the gap, will he come good?
