The premier league is known for pleasant and sometimes, rude surprises as Brentford went to the Etihad and returned with three points, can Fulham pull off another upset on Sunday?

The Red Devils, fresh from their midweek success over Aston Villa in the League Cup can continue their recovery from last weekend’s loss to the same opponent with a good performance and a good win over Fulham to go into the break in high spirit.

United lost to Villa in the league on Unai Emery’s return to the premier league last weekend but managed to rally in midweek to dump Villa out of the Carabao Cup. Is it time for Eric Ten Hag’s team to embrace consistency?

Fulham’s position in this game has been weakened by the news that Alexander Mitrovic will not be available as he continues to heal from injury; despite that, the big striker has been included in Serbia’s World Cup roster and will be flying to Qatar to join the rest of the team.

Fulham currently sits in 9th with 19points, a win over Manchester United will take them just behind Liverpool on the log on goal difference, that would be a strong position to be going into what is now known as the winter break following the World Cup kickoff in the coming days.

How will they line up? Fulham will understand that the only way they can stand a chance to earn anything is by trying; the Lilywhites will take the battle to United and cause them problems at the back with Harry Maguire likely to feature in the continued absence of Raphael Varane.

Manchester United has loads of players heading to the World Cup, how will that impact their performance on Sunday? Ten Hag knows he has the opportunity to send United four clear of Liverpool and three behind Tottenham, he can’t afford to pass on the opportunity.

Cristiano Ronaldo may be playing his last game for United in this fixture as he hopes to get a move away in the January window while Marcus Rashford and Antony need the chance to find right momentum ahead of the World Cup.

United is expected to dominate the game and even go on to win but they must be wary of Marco Silva’s side, it won’t be an easy game before the Craven Cottage crowd.

Verdict: United to win
