Sevilla fires Lopetegui but does he get to join Wolves?

After only one win in ten games this season, Sevilla has parted ways with head coach Julien Lopetegui with the last of his 170 games for the Basque club ending in an embarrassing 4-1 home defeat to German side Borussia Dortmund.

The sacking of Lopetegui continues the run of managerial changes at Sevilla which has seen them have over seven managers since Unai Emery left after a hattrick of Europa League triumphs and in the real sense of it, Lopetegui has been the only success story for the club in that time.

Sevilla sits at the bottom of Group G in the Champions League after their latest loss, tied on 1 point with FC Copenhagen; for a team that one would think would compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona for the title as Atletico Madrid continues to struggle too, it’s a shame it’s not going according to plan.

To make matters worse for Sevilla, their fiercest rivals Real Betis are on fire and that is a big problem for their ancient rivalry. Sevilla has been the most successful in the last ten years, winning back-to-back Europa League titles and also did in 2020 but Betis are the holders of the Copa Del Rey.

In other news, word on the street is that Wolves are preparing a contract for the former Sevilla man; the midlands club usually leans towards Portuguese players and managers but Lopetegui isn’t too far from their style, let’s see how that pans out.
