Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday in one of the four simultaneous fixtures of the premier league and it was always going to turn one way.
Antonio Conte started a familiar eleven with all new signings on the bench except Richarlison who was serving his one match ban.
Southampton handed a starting role to new signings Lavia and Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo.
The Spurs stadium was silenced early on as James Ward Prowse pounced on a fine Djenepo cross to hand Sotton the lead.
It didn’t last long though with Dejan Kulusevski’s cross meeting the willing Ryan Sessegnon’s header at the other end for a sleek leveller.
Tottenham went on rampage from there with Heung Min Son’s cross meeting Eric Dier’s header for the second goal for the hosts.
Son danced into the Saints’ area but fired wide and the Korean set up Harry Kane but the England striker’s effort was well blocked.
Salisu diverted a tame Emerson Royal cross into his own net in the second half to make it three for the hosts and not long afterwards, Kulusevski fired home the fourth.
Conte sent on Lucas Moura and handed debuts to Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma.
The game ended 4-1 with Tottenham surging to the top of the log after the comprehensive win.
Next up for the Spurs is a trip to Stamford Bridge next weekend to negotiate Chelsea, the Bluesgot on to a fine start with a win away at Everton.
