Manchester United are in football trenches but this particular fixture should get them out of the doldrums, they don’t have any excuse whatsoever but they also didn’t have any last weekend when they lost to Everton.

Norwich City have decided to stay fighting despite the ominous signs of relegation damnation, their relegation six-pointer against Burnley will give them some hope, and a win over Manchester United will send some fears into the teams around them.

On paper, Norwich shouldn’t nurse the dreams of earning anything against the Red Devils, not even at Old Trafford, but the premier league giant has refused to act their size and if they fail to beat Norwich, they can forget the top four spot for good.

Arsenal will be at Southampton at about the same time United play Norwich, Tottenham Hotspur would have ended their affair against Brighton and they probably would be nine points clear of United at the time, there’s no hiding place for the Red Devils.

Norwich have the chance of survival if you break it down to mathematics, but in reality, how much chance do they have? There are seven games to play for Dean Smith’s side and they’re seven points off safety, although Everton have played a game less.

Manchester United will be without Luke Shaw, Edison Cavani, Rafael Varane, Scott McTominay and Fred but they should have enough to beat the bottom club, in actual fact, if they can’t win this game, they should never consider themselves good enough for Europe.

Norwich will be brave; they have nothing to lose. The same energy that they brought to the table to beat one of their rivals last weekend must be brought back, it’s a big mountain to climb, but having seen how United have lined up in recent times, it isn’t entirely impossible.

Manchester United have won every single fixture against Norwich in the last five meetings and this one is not entirely expected to be different, it will not be any news if United win but expect lots of analysis if it doesn’t go according to plan.

Verdict: United to win
