Reports suggest that up to eight premier league players could miss the weekend fixtures after the Brazilian FA reportedly invoked a FIFA rule that prevents players from featuring for their clubs if they refuse to release players for recognized national team duties.
This technically means Manchester City will be facing goalkeeper crisis should Ederson be banned due to the petition from the Brazilian FA and they can’t call on Zack Steffen who is down to Covid while on international duty with the USA, their next option is the 36-year-old 3rd choice, Scott Carson.
The clubs that didn’t release players banked on premier league instructions, that players that travel to countries on the British government red list on covid grounds will have to quarantine for 10 days in a hotel.
Sources have confirmed that the Premier League are in discussions with both Brazilian authorities and FIFA in an attempt to resolve the situation, and there is still hope Ederson will be cleared to play.
Under FIFA regulations, players can be banned for five days following the end of an international break. If it is not reversed, United midfielder Thiago Silva would miss Champions League games on Tuesday as well as the next round of Premier League fixtures.
Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson all of Liverpool have been included in the list of players who could also be banned from EPL play, as well as Leeds forward Raphinha Brazil squad for the first time.
Richarlison, however, has not been included in the list, as Everton allowed the striker to play at the Olympic Games when regulations did not force them to.
