Atletico Madrid have re-signed Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann on a one-year loan contract.
Atletico will pay the player's salaries, and there is a mandatory clause to make the transfer permanent.
The France international scored 133 goals in 257 appearances for Atletico before being released in 2019 after Barcelona met his £107 million buyout clause.
However, the 30-year-old scored just 35 goals in 102 appearances and won the Copa del Rey with Barcelona.
He is the 11th player, including Lionel Messi, to leave financially troubled Barcelona this summer.
Barcelona were forced to let go of their all-time leading scorer in order to comply with La Liga's wage structure, and Messi joined Paris St-Germain.
Griezmann is Barcelona's third transfer deadline day sell. Emerson Royal, a right-back, joined Tottenham for £25.8 million, while Ilaix Moriba, a teenage midfielder, joined RB Leipzig for £13.7 million.
Atletico Madrid recruited Barcelona striker Luis Suarez last summer, and he helped Diego Simeone's team win La Liga.
Twitter reaction to Barcelona selling Griezmann back to Atletico Madrid
Aside from the fact it’s an option, not an obligation to buy, this looks an even bigger troll job by Atletico when you realise they could have offered to take Griezmann back earlier in the summer, when it might have helped Barcelona fit Messi’s new contract into their wage cap 😱— Liam Twomey (@liam_twomey) August 31, 2021

Atletico used the money to buy Felix then also took Suarez for free and won Liga with them.

Griezmann was never a good fit for Barcelona. But sending him back to Atletico, not only direct rivals and champions but a team and a coach that can get the best out of him with an inform Correa and Suarez is, I don't even know what it is. https://t.co/K0ps5y8O9y— Roy Nemer (@RoyNemer) August 31, 2021
Barcelona paid us 120M for Griezmann. Then they gave us Suarez for free because of him, through whom we won a league.— AU🏆 (@parteyismo) August 31, 2021
Then they couldn't register Messi because of Griezmann's wages. And now they're giving him back to us on a loan with an option, not an obligation to buy.
