Messi speaks with Pochettino ahead of possible PSG move

Lionel Messi has spoken with Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, as he prepares to join the French club after leaving Barcelona.

PSG is likely to give Messi a two-year contract worth £25 million per year after tax, with an option for a third year, next week. The 34-year-old and his father, Jorge, are expecting the offer to arrive this weekend.

Messi left Barcelona after the La Liga club was unable to fulfil a new deal negotiated with the player owing to "financial and structural obstacles". 

Messi will conduct a press conference at the Nou Camp on Sunday.

PSG, coached by Messi's fellow countryman Mauricio Pochettino, emerged as the frontrunner for his signature, reuniting him with former Barcelona teammate Neymar.

Messi is open to joining PSG, but he and his representatives want to consider their options after his surprise departure from the Nou Camp.

PSG believes they have a decent chance of signing him and can afford to do so without breaking any Financial Fair Play restrictions.

This summer, free transfers Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, and Georginio Wijnaldum have already arrived at the Parc des Princes.

Messi, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner, had been a free agent since July 1 after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with Barcelona before his previous deal expired on June 30.

Messi has spent his entire career at Barcelona, rising through the ranks of the club's academy before making his senior debut in 2003, scoring 672 goals in 778 matches.
