Manchester United open talks with Cristiano Ronaldo as Man City withdraw from the deal to sign the Portugal captain
Manchester City are no longer in talks to recruit Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, as Manchester United have entered the contest.
Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo's agent, has approached United to propose a contract that would bring Ronaldo back to the club, and negotiations are ongoing.
City were approached about signing Ronaldo and explored a deal, as they were believed to be the player's first option.
While the City board recognised his abilities as a player, there was little enthusiasm for him because he does not fit their typical profile.
Ronaldo is currently on the lookout for a new club, and Mendes is reported to be in negotiations with other clubs.
