Where do we start from? The pandemic edition of the famous European Championship has proven to be the craziest yet, with goals flying in from every possible angle, also from least expected sources and then the ones scored by those that didn’t mean it, whew!

Hosted by 11 different cities, the Euro 2020 has defied odds to treat us to a spectacle as the round of 16 draws to a close with Germany’s trip to Wembley pending as well as a date between Andie Shevchenko’s Ukraine and Emile Forsberg’s Sweden, we wait…

Thrusting daggers in your own heart – Own goals at Euro 2020

If there’s any takers as sponsors, Martin Dubvraka’s embarrassing moment against Spain would easily win the “own goal of the tournament”, shortly after denying Alvaro Morata from the penalty spot, the Newcastle goal keeper diverted the ball into his own net when it was actually easier to palm it out

Merih Demiral of Turkey repaid some faith to his allegiance to Juventus when Italy squared up with Turkey in the curtain raiser for the championship, his own goal was actually built around uncertainties as he couldn’t even tell the direction of the ball, his chest helped the ball past his own keeper… Tragic!

Wojceich Szczesny’s own goal against Slovakia must be one that is quite forgivable as the ball cannoned off the woodwork and off his back into the net, it was the precursor for Poland’s exit from the championship and you know… it is what it is.

Matt Hummels was the culprit for the lone goal in the game between France and Germany, another curious case of sheer uncertainty, it took a little while to decide who scored and that tells you something about the finesse, opening up your body for clearances isn’t for everyone really…

And then this bizarre own goal and we can even pin it on two culprits; Pedri for his indiscretions with a needless, badly timed back pass and then Unai Simon for his lack of concentration, both can be glad Spain survived the 8 goal thriller against Croatia but they will both appear before our jury.

Arguably the best defender in Europe at the moment, Ruben Dias will also make it to this list for his effort, right into his own net in the thrilling 4-2 loss to Germany, it took a while to tell what truly happened, maybe the screens didn’t believe EPL player of the season did that, well… He did!
