Former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez has joined Everton on a three year deal after leaving Chinese club by mutual consent.

Benitez led Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005 and was so close to a league title in 2009 before collapsing late on, he was Chelsea’s stop gap manager after Roberto Di Matteo was fired in 2012 and he helped them to a Europa League triumph.

Benitez left Newcastle just under two years ago but he’s now back in the premier league following Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to take up Real Madrid’s job and abandoned the project he started at Goodison Park last season.

Rafa says: “I’m delighted to be joining Everton. I believe this is a club that is going places. I’m determined to play a big part in helping this great Club achieve its ambitions”.

How this will be received at Anfield is left to be seen as the rivalry between the two clubs will have a new direction from here on.
