Good people of the world wherever you are, maybe it wasn’t pretty, maybe it was chaotic in the run-in, rise to your feet in applause of the champions, Atletico Madrid have dethroned their city rivals and delivered the Spanish La Liga title!

It was in their hands all along, they needed a win, or better still equal Real Madrid’s scoreline and they did just that, in a difficult fashion as expected, going down 1-0 early on via a breakaway goal from Real Valladolid but came back to win.

Real Madrid made it easy for Atletico, news filtered through slightly after Atletico conceded that Real Madrid have also conceded, Unai Emery’s Villareal wanted to avoid the 7th spot which would only be good enough for the newly formed Conference League, they took Madrid by surprise.

Zinedine Zidane threw on Isco and Marcelo at halftime in place of Marco Asensio and Vinicius respectively and boy didn’t that work?

Karim Benzema pulled one back with just five minutes on the clock and everyone at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium was refreshing their devices to be updated on what was happening at Real Valladolid where Atletico was leading.

Atletico had equalized through a fine Correa strike earlier in the second half and out of panic, Real Valladolid self destruct and Suarez was through on goal.

The pace had left him but composure hasn’t. Suarez picked his spot and Atletico were starring at the finish line.

Valladolid went down, needing a win from the wrong customer and hoping results go their way elsewhere.

But it didn’t, Elche beat Athletic Bilbao and they, in turn, sent Eibar, Valladolid and Huesca down to the Satandar.

Real Madrid will have to reset, sort out the contract of a few important players and do the right business in the coming window.

But right now, give it to the champions of La Liga, Atletico Madrid.

Again, it’s petty but worth noting that Luis Suarez was released by Barcelona on the ground that he got nothing to offer, guess who has the last laugh?
