Pep Guardiola says Aguero is irreplaceable and City will not buy a striker next season

Man City manager Pep Guardiola has said replacing club legend Sergio Aguero is impossible and City will not buy a new striker in the summer as the club cannot afford it.

Earlier this week, the club announced that Sergio Aguero will leave at the end of this season.

The news ignited debates and rumours on who will replace the legendary striker who has scored 257 goals for City, making him the club's highest goal scorer in history.

Borussia Dortmund young star Erling Haaland was reported to be on top of City's shopping list to replace Aguero.

But Pep Guardiola has said the Manchester club are not looking to sign a new striker this summer due to financial constraints as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world economy generally.

Guardiola also paid tribute to Aguero saying the Argentine forward is simply irreplaceable in terms of numbers.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of their visit to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City, Pep said: "We know how important a player (Aguero) is in the present and the past. These decisions are never easy."

"It’s almost impossible to replace (in terms of numbers). But in terms of what he means to this Club, we cannot replace."

Guardiola pointed out that players are overpriced in the current football market.

"With these prices, we will not buy any striker. It’s impossible. We will not afford it. All the clubs struggle. We are not an exception.

"I don't know what is going to happen. Today, there is more chance we will not buy a striker next season." He said.
