Man City came from behind to score two late goals to beat a stubborn and resilient Southampton.

The Saints were thrashed 9-0 at home by Leicester in their last Premier League match and were determined not to be humiliated at the Etihad.

Southampton took the lead as early as the 13th minute after James Ward Prowse was on hand to score from a rebound off a Ederson mistake.

Man City struggled to break down Southampton until the 7th minute when Sergio Aguero found himself free in the box for a tap in to equalize for the home side.

Pep Guardiola's side kept pouring forward as they try to win knowing league leaders Liverpool are also playing simultaneously.

The pressure paid off for City, Kyle Walker scored a dramatic injury-time winner to secure a very important three points for the champions.

Manchester City are six points behind Liverpool as the Anfield club also left it late to win at Villa to maintain their six points advantage over City.

The defending champions side will visit Liverpool next Sunday in a top of the table clash that could determine where the League title swings.

“We did everything,” he said.

“It was so difficult to attack when they defend with 11 players. We did everything we could and in the end our intensity and our players paid off. We made a good comeback.

“We were so patient. We were aggressive. The rhythm was high from the first minute. Big compliments to the team it was not easy and we did it.”

“They defended with 11 players,” added Guardiola.

“They didn’t allow you to go inside. They allowed you to go outside. There wasn't any space. [Danny] Ings and [Nathan] Redmond defended the 18-yard box.

“We needed people in the box. It was almost impossible. They were so close.

“The difference between the back five was so close. There was no space. We made the space big because we had the wingers and full-backs wide.

“We were patient, but we were constant. That’s why we made the comeback.”
