Aubameyang scores, Pepe debut as gunners beat Newcastle at St. James' park

Aubameyang celebrates scoring Arsenal's first goal away at Newcastle

Arsenal kicked off their Premier League season with a win away at Newcastle as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang took advantage of a poor Newcastle defending to score his 33rd goal in 50 Premier League games for the gunners.

Unai Emery started with the game with two English teenagers, Joe Willock, and Reiss Nelson, with most of their new signings on the bench. Arsenal were also without Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolsainac due to security reasons.

The gunners struggled to dominate the game in the first half as Unia Emery watched on in the rain.

Just before the hour mark, Aubameyang found himself unmarked on the edge of the box and scored from Ainsley Maitland-Niles' cross.

Club-record signing Nicolas Pepe and midfielder Dani Ceballos came on from the bench as they both failed to impress in their Arsenal debut.

Newcastle record signing Joelinton almost gave the home side the lead but Bernd Leno was on hand to make the save before Jonjo Shelvey hit the woodwork with a fantastic strike.

Steve Bruce's side were pedestrian in the second half despite some exciting flash of play by new signing Allan Saint-Maximin.
