Madagascar continue amazing run as AFCON debutants reach quarter finals (Match Highlights)
Madagascar wrote their names in the good books of history as they landed in the quarterfinals by beating DR Congo 4-2 on penalties, the match ended 2-2 after extra-time.
Ibrahim Amada scored first for the debutants in the 9th minute before they were pegged back by the Congolese.
Former Villareal striker Cedric Bakambu equalized for DR Congo in the 21st-minute as both teams keep trying to outwit each other in an exciting game of football, the first half ended at 1-1.
In the second half, Madagascar continue to contain the Congolese as they look to break on the counter with their pacey attackers. Captain Faneva Andriarsuna restored Madagascar's lead with a fine diving header after a fine run and cross by Romain Metanire.
The African cup of Nations first timers defended with their hearts until the 90th minute when former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbamba rose highest to score a fine header to level the scores.
Congo did everything possible to leap in front in extra-time but the debutants held on till the end to force penalties where they triumphed to book a place in the quarterfinals to play the winner of the game between Ghana and Tunisia.
