Egypt 0-1 South Africa: Bafana Bafana beat hosts against all odds (Match Highlights)

South Africa proved the bookies wrong with a shock win over the hosts.

Egypt had gone in the round of sixteen games against the Bafana Bafana with high optimism and not many people expected South Africa to offer much resistance but Stuart Baxter’s men had other ideas.

South Africa took the game straight to the Pharaohs and the hosts seemed rattled.

The pace of Percy Tau and the trickery of Thembinkosi Lorch found Hamed Hegazi and co often scrambling for grounds but they managed to balance up to head into the break even.

The second half was even more intense, South Africa didn’t offer much respite to the Egyptians who eventually succumbed to pressure and dumped the hosts out of the competition when Orlando Pirates forward, Thembinkosi Lorch found the back of the net with five minutes left on the watch; Xavier Aguirre’s men went all out but it was not to be as the Bafana Bafana marched on to book a date in the quarterfinals with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Alexandria on Wednesday.
