Messi rejected the Copa America Golden Ball award; Trophy withdrawn [Video]

Fresh from winning a historic treble with Barcelona, Leo Messi was on the losing side once again in his national teams colours last night.

Argentina lost to Chile on penalties in the final of the Copa America, having lost to Germany in the final of the World Cup last summer.

Having won the Golden Ball after the World Cup final last July, Leo Messi was also due to be awarded the Golden Ball award after last night’s bitter defeat to their South American rivals.

Messi did not want the awkwardness of having to try and smile on the stage whilst obviously upset – as happened in Brazil last summer.
