There were four meetings between these two last season, and the result went only one way the entire four times. Can Manchester United halt the rot against Spurs, or will Thomas Frank’s side do it again?

It was Ange Postecoglou against Ruben Amorim last season, a different protagonist, the same antagonist, and fans must be wondering what it would look like under Thomas Frank; they enjoyed the one-sided affair of last season, and they certainly want it to continue.

Is Amorim currently facing a mental block against Tottenham? Can the Portuguese tinker with his side for a big win away at Tottenham? He has done it at a big ground like Anfield, arguably the biggest of them in the context of the Premier League. Does he have enough to do it at Tottenham?

How things have changed; Tottenham used to turn up to get defeated anytime they faced the Red Devils in days of old, not anymore, and that must irritate Manchester United fans who witnessed the dominance under Sir Alex Ferguson.

A lot indeed has changed, not only in this fixture but in football generally; now, teams play differently, clubs now have set-piece coaches and spend a long time in training practising how to press and how to defend against long throws. The game has indeed evolved.

After three straight wins, their first of such under Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils surrendered their run at Nottingham Forest, a game they could have won and lost. They have a fan who wouldn’t get a haircut until they win five in a row; the count starts from this one again.

Tottenham were quite embarrassing against Chelsea last weekend; it was a game they seek to forget in a hurry. The win in the Champions League in midweek doesn’t do a lot to erase that horrible feeling; however, it has put them in the right mood to welcome Manchester United.

Xavi Simons hasn’t been anything we expect him to be. Is this the fixture in which he finds his rhythm? Mohammed Kudus is believed to be carrying niggles; will he be able to shake that off to be able to feature in this epic fixture?

For United, it’s always the same trio: Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo. Is anyone else going to join them? If they will ever shake off their losses against Spurs, United must be as professional as they were against Liverpool. One game a week should count, but is momentum on Spurs’ side?

Verdict: Both teams to score
