Liverpool officially became champions in waiting in the race for the Premier League title after beating the reigning champions Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

It was the first time the champions lost at home to Liverpool in the Pep Guardiola era, and to be honest, it’s SOS time at the Etihad. Nothing seems to be working for the Spaniard and his boys. Where do they go from here?

Mohammed Salah scored the opener from an intelligent corner kick routine. The Egyptian's goal was his 25th of the Premier League season, and with 11 games left in the season, his record of 32 in the 2017/18 season could be broken.

Dominic Szoboszlai made it two before the halftime whistle was blown by referee Anthony Taylor off another assist from Salah, leaving Manchester City with a mountain to climb. Still, the hosts did have a goal chalked off for offside midway into the first half.

The champions huffed and puffed, but Liverpool looked the likelier to score in the second half. Curtis Jones thought he had scored his first goal of the calendar year, but the offside flag curtailed his celebrations.

The win took Liverpool eleven points clear with eleven to play. Barring any unfortunate collapse, they can start making plans for a title parade at Anfield. But what are Manchester City's next steps?

"I saw a bright future," Guardiola told the BBC.

"Other than Kevin [De Bruyne] and Nathan [Ake], they are the future of this club in the next years, with others who will come in future windows.

"It was a good game. Tight game in the first half. In the first half, it was more open, and in the second half, they defended very deep. They always have the threat, but it is not easy to control it. Big compliment to them, but I am very pleased with the way we play."

Arsenal lost at home to West Ham on Saturday, and Nottingham Forest lost at Newcastle. Is Liverpool ready for their second-ever Premier League title?
