The weekend once again demonstrated the peculiar nature of the Premier League, as evidenced by the humiliation of Manchester City on their own turf and the unexpected success of Ruben Amorim.

Reviewing the weekend, there’s a whole lot to unpack, from the madness at the Etihad to Arsenal’s revival, Chelsea’s gritty win over Leicester, and the final two fixtures of Sunday. What better place to begin than with thunderstorms at the Etihad?

Tottenham has always been a formidable opponent for the Cityzens, but their performance on Saturday was unprecedented. Having lost four matches in a row, it was up to the champions to respond and give their fans something to cheer; they saw the opposite.

Tottenham rammed four goals past Ederson in goal for City, but that doesn’t tell the entire story. It could have been more, but the champions could have been three goals up by the first quarter of the game, with Erling Haaland missing clear-cut chances.

The loss set the champions back by eight points after Liverpool rallied to beat Southampton at St. Mary’s on Sunday. Speaking of Southampton, their performance against the log leaders should worry you.

It’s okay to have a philosophy and be willing to stick to it, but at what point do you switch things up? It was evident that the Liverpool attackers would not relent in their pressure, which ultimately resulted in their disastrous play from the back.

Sotton led 2-1 early in the second half, but goalkeeping errors and a bizarre Sugawara handball got Liverpool 3-2 up, putting the leaders in a good place ahead of the visit of Manchester City to Anfield next weekend; we can’t wait.

Chelsea beat Leicester City, but it wasn’t pretty with the home side throwing everything at the Blues at the tail end. Chelsea could have wrapped things up earlier in the game, but Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer conspired to miss glaring chances.

Arsenal easily defeated Nottingham Forest. Arsenal displayed glimpses of their performance from last season, reducing the visitors to nothing. Martin Ødegaard showed why he was sorely missed, and Bukayo Saka proved yet again that he is the most important Arsenal player.

Marcus Rashford's goal within two minutes gave Amorim the best possible start, but Ipswich took the game to them, forcing them to settle for a draw. Amorim understands the issue, but he will require time to resolve it. Will they provide him with this time?
