It’s a game that portends huge entertainment, relentless Spurs up against chaotic Villa in the North London Sunshine on Sunday, we live for these days.

It’s a huge game by all standards; it’s fourth on the Premier League log against fifth, and the incentive is massive. Tottenham wins this; they usurp Liverpool on the log and go third, level on points with Manchester City in second, while a win for the visitors takes Villa to fourth above their hosts.

Tottenham had a sensational start to the season, their best in the Premier League era after ten games, but the two games that followed have been chaotic. The ugly loss at home to Chelsea didn’t only cost them three points; it also took four key players from them.

Micky Van de Ven limped off, and he’s not expected until the new year; James Maddison fell and won’t return until late December at the earliest; Christian Romero and Destiny Udogie both saw red, and only Udogie will be available for Villa.

It’s quite straightforward for the visitors; they don’t have too many absentees to worry about like their hosts, but there are a couple of men on the treatment table too. The availability of Emi Martinez is shrouded in doubt, but Unai Emery is confident he will be able to play.

How will they line up? Tottenham will hope Heung Min Son is able to recover from the round trip to Asia to be able to fire on for them on Sunday. Brennan Johnson was on target in the 2-1 loss at Wolves; he had minutes during the international break for Wales, and he will hope to build on his last league form.

Ben Davies and Eric Dier struggled against the Wolves; they will have more firepower to face in the Villa attack; they will be suspect; and Ange Postecoglou must find ways to make them tick. Pedro Porro is firing, and Udogie should be available for selection.

Aston Villa will need Ollie Watkins to take his chances. He missed a couple of sitters in the 3-1 home win over Fulham last time out. Moussa Diaby has been a revelation for the visitors, and Tottenham must find ways to stop him.

Both sides have good reasons to go for this. Villa’s away form leaves too much to be desired, and Tottenham’s unrepentant highline should encourage Aston Villa’s strategy. It’s a game everyone will enjoy.

Verdict: Both teams score
