Mason Mount leaves Chelsea for Man United

Man Utd sign Chelsea's star Mason Mount until 2028. The midfielder is set for a new challenge under Erik ten Hag

Manchester United have announced the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea for a reported £55m fee + £5m add ons.

The 24-year-old England international has signed a contract that will see him in the red jersey until June 2028, with the possibility of an additional year.

Mason Mount, who boasts 279 club appearances, 58 goals, and 53 assists in his decorated career, is set to bring his unique blend of technical skill, tenacity, and experience to Manchester United.

As a Champions League winner and Chelsea’s Player of the Year for both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, Mount's addition signifies a massive win for United.

Speaking of his decision to leave Chelsea, the club where he honed his skills and built his career, Mount admitted it was a tough call. "It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up," he said. "But Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career."

"Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies," Mount added.

This move is a strong reflection of the direction Manchester United is taking under coach Erik ten Hag. "Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag," said Mount.

Mason Mount will wear the iconic number 7 jersey at Old Trafford, following the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
