Arsenal continued their run in their best-ever start to a premier league season with yet another win on the road and yet another clean sheet as they dismissed Wolves at the Molineux with new manager Julien Lopetegui watching on.
The Gunners returned with the same lineup that beat Chelsea last weekend and it has to be established, consistency with the team sheet has helped the Gunners as Mikel Arteta has made the second-fewest changes to his starting lineup in the league, just behind Brighton.
Wolves presented a youthful team to try and match Arsenal’s energy but the Gunners dominated the entirety of the first half but didn’t trouble Jose Sa that much. The visitors didn’t allow Wolves’ incursions in their own area but left actions at the other end for the second half.
There was a scare for Arsenal and Switzerland early on as Granit Xhaka was taken off due to stomach problems and replaced with Fabio Vieira; it was the Portuguese that got on the end of a neat team move and set up Martin Odegaard to tap home from close range for the opener just before the hour mark.
Arsenal made sure of the points through the same outlet. Gabriel Martinelli’s effort was parried into the path of the Norwegian and he obliged with a two-touch finish; the first to set himself up brilliantly and the second to fire past Jose Sa but you must ask for the whereabouts of the Wolves defenders.
Arsenal held on for a sleek win despite the Wolves’ late chance that was well pushed over acrobatically by Aaron Ramsdale in the Arsenal goal. The win means the Gunners go into the break five points clear and will be top at Christmas for the first time in fifteen years.
