Tottenham Hotspur and South Korea have been thrown into limbo following reports that star winger Heung Min Son will have to undergo surgery to fix a fracture around his left eye socket.
Heung Min Son was helped off the pitch midway into Tottenham’s 2-1 comeback win over Olympique Marseille in their champions league final group game clash at the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday and the damage has now been established to be just as worse as the first feared.
The South Korean has struggled to replicate last season’s form, which saw him land the golden boot award. The surgery is expected to take place in the coming days and he is certain to miss games for Spurs and is also in danger of missing out on the World Cup.
Son is an integral part of the South Korean national team, he scored seven goals in thirteen world cup qualifying games and the country will be bothered about his potential absence from the World Cup which would be dependent on how quickly he heals.
Tottenham will play Liverpool this weekend and then Leeds United before the World Cup break; there’s also a cup game against Nottingham Forest to negotiate and all will be played without Son in the squad. Spurs also have Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski out injured.
