Benjamin Mendy begins trial on eight count of rape - The Manchester city defender has been charged in eight counts of rape cases.

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has started facing trial on his eight counts of rape cases at the Chester Crown Court in the North West of England.

Prosecutors described Mendy as a “predator” who couldn’t take no for an answer and was accused of locking women up in locker rooms, molest and rape them to submission countless times without remorse and would face the full wrath of the law if found guilty.

The City left back has also been accused of one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault by a separate woman.

He is alleged to have committed previous offences against seven young women between October 2018 and August last year but he has denied all.

The prosecution lawyer, Timothy Cray says to the jury: "The prosecution case is simple. It has little to do with football. Instead, we say, it is another chapter in a very old story -- men who rape and sexually assault women, because they think they are powerful, and because they think they can get away with it."

Benjamin Mendy is standing trial alongside his co-conspirator Louis Saha Matthurie who has been described as the fixer – Saha is alleged to have arranged young women for Mendy and positioned them in a compromising manner to be assaulted by the Frenchman.

Manchester City suspended the former Monaco man in August 2021 after he was arrested by the Chester community police. 

He joined the club in 2017 from Monaco and was a part of the dominant City team that amassed hundred points and scored 106 times that season.

Benjamin Mendy’s trial will go on for fifteen weeks before a pronouncement is made.
