Sami Nasri lobbed Tim Howard at the death to maintain City's 100% start to the new campaign at Goodison park, only the second time Manuel Pelegrini is beating Everton away in his Manchester City reigns.

Alexandra Kolarov drove home from a tight angle on the hour mark of a very intriguing clash to open the deadlock after some excellent City build up, the game had started in a cagey fashion, Tim Howard was the early hero as he saved from David Silva in the opening minutes before thwarting Aguero when he combined brilliantly with Jesus Navas.

Romelu Lukaku could have given the hosts the lead, his well taken free kick beat Joe Hart but not the upright, Seamus Coleman went close afterwards but Hart saved.

Raheem Sterling endured a torrid time as he was booed at every touch, his first return to Mersyside after his controversial transfer was never going to be easy, he did give a good try but Howard turned away for a corner kick.

Lukaku wheeled away in celebration after rounding Joe Hart but his effort was ruled offside, there were chances for both sides as the half went to a close but some spirited defending from Mangala and Kompany stuck the scoreline at goalless at halftime.

David Silva clipped the crossbar from a Sterling layoff straight after the restart and it was all City in the opening minutes of the second half, not long after, another Sterling pass picked Kolarov who braved odds from a tight angle to beat Howard for 1:0. Had Navas been more precise, it could have been 2:0 minutes after but he lingered and missed a chance.

Kompany had to be alert with ten minutes remaining when Gareth Barry powered goal-wards, the big Belgian cleared off the line with Hart clearly beaten, Everton looked like getting back into it but Sami Nasri had none of it, he raced on to a neat Yaya Toure flick to lob the American goalie and made sure the Citizens return to Manchester with shoulders high and their defense invincible.
