Arsene Wenger calls Karim Benzema to discuss transfer to Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has reportedly made a phone call to Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema in an attempt to persuade the striker to move to Arsenal this summer according to Cope.

The French international has long been linked with a move to the Gunners and rumours are circulating that Arsenal are readying a bid for the Los Blancos forward.

It is understood that newly appointed Real manager Rafa Benitez is eager to use Cristiano Ronaldo as his main striker next season leaving the 27 year old with a decision to make on his immediate future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Over the last few years Arsenal have not been afraid to spend big on star players after the signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez during the last two summer transfer windows. While Real Madrid are keen to hold on to Karim Benzema they may be tempted to sell if they recieve a mouthwatering offer for the Frenchman.

Manchester United are also thought to be interested in signing the 27-year-old but are currently embroiled in a transfer saga with Real Madrid over the future of United goalkeeper David De Gea.
