Guy Lacombe is delighted for Zinedine Zidane over his success with Real Madrid as a coach.
Lacombe worked with Zidane as Cannes coach.
He told So Foot: “I do not know if it was his destiny, but in any case he was in the right place at the right time to launch his career superbly.
“In the right place because he knows this club perfectly. Real is his house, he controls every corner … This is a considerable advantage. The right moment, however, was harder to foresee.
“Great players do not necessarily make great coaches, but at one point you have to go, to show what you’re worth. He had the desire to be a coach, yes, even if this desire came late, well after his retirement in 2006. But had he the ability? It’s like a guy diving into a pool without knowing if there is water.
