The London Evening Standard says Emenalo, who was present as Kante received his FWA trophy at the Landmark Hotel on Thursday night, said Chelsea got “lucky” last summer when they managed to recruit the midfielder and admitted he sent Leicester flowers to thank the club for allowing the deal to go through.
“We got lucky. I sent flowers to Leicester for letting us have him,” Emenalo said at the dinner.
Kante was a key member of the Leicester side that stormed to the Premier League title in the 2015/16 campaign before the 26-year-old expressed a desire to sign for Chelsea as Antonio Conte sought to strengthen his midfield options.
