The forward bounced back four weeks ahead of schedule after suffering a knee ligament damage that kept him out for over two months

Sunderland’s Victor Anichebe has stated reasons for his quick return from injury after staying off the pitch for seven week.

The 28-year-old sustained a knee ligament damage in the Black Cats’ 2-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in January.

According to the Nigerian who boasts of three goals this season, he return from injury ahead of time was to help the Black Cats’ relegation fight.

”I love it here, before I got injured I felt great, performances were good, someone was saying that outside Hazard I was one of the highest ranked attackers in the league, so I’ve enjoyed it,” Anichebe told Sunderland Echo.

“The fans have been great to me, it is a really great club, so whenever I go out there I try as hard as I can.

”This injury was meant to keep me out for 12/13 weeks but I came back after nine, because I wanted to help the team because I know I can with the different style I bring.

”It’s a great club, great stadium, great training facilities, great fanbase, it’s a shame we are where we are.”

Sunderland sit at the base of the English Premier League table with 21 points from 32 games.
