West Ham United may have found their potential replacement for Dimitri Payet after scouts were spotted at the Serie A fixture between Bologna and Chievo, with Hammers officials keeping an eye on Bologna’s attacking midfielder Simone Verdi.
Verdi was one of the standout players in Bologna’s four-one win against Chievo on Sunday, with the midfielder scoring one of his side’s goals and assisting in another.
This performance adds to quite a successful season for the 24-year-old who currently has tallied up five goals and three assists in a productive 2016/17 season.
Now with West Ham looking forward to next season after falling short of expectations this season, the West London club are reportedly keen on bringing Verdi to the London Stadium.
As reported by Tuttomercatoweb, via HITC, West Ham are keen to acquire the man once labelled as the next Gianfranco Zola in the upcoming summer transfer window.
While Verdi is currently under contract at Bologna till 2020, the 24-year-old has shown the quality many expected of him during his early days at AC Milan. The Italian made his debut for Milan at just 17 but failed to live up to the hype surrounding him which saw him loaned out and sold between La Liga and the Serie A.
However, with the 24-year-old beginning to show all the qualities of a star midfielder, West Ham is keen to strike following the departure of Dimitri Payet in the summer which saw Slaven Bilic’s side lose a significant playmaking attacking threat.
