VIDEO: Arsenal Concede in Pre-Season Friendly Despite Putting 11 Men on the Goal Line

Western Sydney v Arsenal

Is there ever a time when fans aren’t goading Arsenal’s defence for its leaky nature? Well the Gunners proved once again just how hard it is to keep the ball out of the net in their latest pre-season friendly.

In their match against Western Sydney Wanderers, the hosts won an indirect free-kick on the edge of the six-yard box, after goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez picked up a back-pass. All 11 of the Arsenal team were lined-up on the goal line, yet failed to block Steve Lustica’s rebound – after stopping the original free-kick.

For any side, you would expect that 11 players on the line would be enough to keep the ball out, however, Arsenal still managed to create a hole and allow their opponents to score.

Fortunately for Arsene Wenger’s men, they were already 3-0 to the good when Lustica found a gap in their defensive wall. Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsay and Mohamed Elneny scored in the 3-1 win to ensure that the Gunners opened their pre-season with two wins from two.

It’s been a positive start to the summer for Arsenal, with the signing of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolašinac raising the spirits of the long-suffering fans. With Mesut Ozil set to sign a new contract, the only looming cloud is that over Alexis Sanchez’s future.

The Chilean has been heavily linked to Manchester City in recent weeks, after so far refusing to sign a new contract, and Arsenal fans will be nervous at the prospect of their best player moving to a Premier League rival.

Who scored these famous last minute goals?

Who scored the winning goal in the 94th minute vs. QPR that won Manchester City the title in 2012?

Who scored Barcelona’s injury-time goal to knock PSG out of this year’s Champions League Quarter Final?

Who scored for the Netherlands in the 89th minute to send Argentina crashing out of the 1998 World Cup?

Who scored the all-important equalizing goal against Greece to send England through to the 2002 FIFA World Cup?

Who scored Real Madrid’s 93rd minute equalising goal against Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final to send the game into extra time?

You don’t know a thing. Better hit the history books!

Not bad, but you can do better!

Great job! You really know your football history!
