A 96th minute winner for Amiens on Friday night meant that they would earn back-to-back promotions into Ligue 1, with Strasbourg claiming the Ligue 2 title.
In what has been considered the most dramatic finale to a league across the entirety of Europe, an incredible six teams were in the running for the league title on Friday night, with an outrageous possibility of 30 different outcomes for the top two spots heading into the final gameweek.
Amiens fans were forced to wait until deep into stoppage time to earn their promotion, but the stadium erupted when substitute Emmanuel Bourgaud found the back of the net with only seconds to spare against Reims.
As the ball broke loose to Bourgaud, the 29-year-old rifled Amiens’ season defining goal low into the bottom corner – breaking the hearts of Nimes, Brest, Lens and Troyes all at once.

In a night of high intensity, each of the six teams vying for promotion won their individual matches. A sensational 3-2 win at Sochaux from Troyes after being 2-0 down wasn’t enough for them to earn their place in automatic promotion, and instead have to settle for a play-off match with whoever finishes 18th in the top flight later on in the month.
It was an evening of many twists and turns – each of the top six trading places frequently throughout the match. However, thanks to the last minute madness that ensued at the Stade de Reims, Amiens will be playing top flight football next season.
